I thought they looked like cigar stubs in the picture... Anyway, the only English translation I found for the thing is "May-day fritter", although they don't usually look like that. The one in my plate has crumbled into a pile of mess, the compact form looks something like this brains. The stuff on it is icing sugar. They're usually eaten during First of May in Finland.

Helmand is quite a far-off region.. Well, I'm not in Helmand province, but in Uruzgan province, but yeah, it's about 5300 km from home. Quiet though, no combat at all in our area at the moment (unlike the Britsh and American areas, the Brits incidently have a Danish PRT with them), just some problems with Improvised Explosive Devices, more or less selfmade mines. Glad it's quiet too, if I don't have to fire a shot, it's fine with me.
